It’s no secret we’re big fans of Bellroy Wallets.

Each of their products combines clever design aimed at versatility and functionality with a flawless minimalist style. If you’re exploring the smart wallet space, you might also want to check out Ekster for their trackable ejector wallets, or Andar for another take on premium leather bifolds. If you want to see how Bellroy stacks up against the field first, we’ve rounded up six Bellroy alternatives at every price tier.

Why carry around a bulky “Costanza” wallet when you can carry one of these hip, slim, modern ones? With colors across the spectrum and a few different organizational styles, most people will find a Bellroy that fits how they actually carry.

Bellroy Leather Quality

And Bellroy doesn’t mess around when it comes to quality. Its materials guide describes the current leather as full-grain, chrome-tanned cow leather from gold-rated Leather Working Group tanneries. Check the selected finish: some products also offer leather alternatives.

  • “Naked” leather shows the natural grain and develops more visible character.
  • “Dressed” leather has a finish that resists marking better than the Naked variety.
  • Water-resistant finishes help with splashes; they don’t make every wallet waterproof.

The warranty is three years for wallets and accessories, six for bags, and ten for luggage. It covers material and workmanship faults under normal use, with proof of purchase; expected wear and tear and overstuffing damage are excluded.

The Men’s Wallet Line by Bellroy

We’ve tried to review and break it down for you as easily as possible, but below you’ll find their men’s wallet line, their women’s wallet line, their bags, accessories and more… The Bellroy Wallets Review we’ve provided will hopefully get you started off on the right foot.

The Card Sleeve

This little wallet is perfect for the minimalist wallet aficionado. It fits very comfortably in your front pocket, back pocket, shirt pocket…any pocket. It easily fits two cards + driver’s license and some cash. Really though, what more do you need? This is a great wallet for teenage guys as well.

The Slim Sleeve

The Slim Sleeve rolls card and folded-cash storage into one little package. The current Slim Sleeve specification is 5–11 cards, with two quick-access slots and the rest can be accessed with a handy pulltab. The Slim Sleeve also has space for bi- or tri-fold bills without getting too bulky. Bellroy keeps it slim with what they call the “nude approach,” which uses less leather overall to keep the wallet as slim as possible.

A ten-year Slim Sleeve owner praised its slim profile and easy card access, while reporting minor edge tearing and leather rubbing onto cards. That combination is useful to keep in mind: a wallet can remain handy while showing wear.

The Note Sleeve

The Note Sleeve is the Rolls Royce of the Bellroy wallet line. It has everything but manages to keep it all superbly slim. 11 cards. Flat bill storage. Three quick-access slots. We mean everything. And with its soft leather and a full selection of Bellroy colors, this wallet’s classic style works from the edgy guy to the classy gent.

The Coin Wallet

Are you the kind of guy who opts for cash over cards? This slim coin fold is just what you’ve been looking for. With flat bill storage and a coin pocket that opens easily with a pinch, the coin fold stores a good amount of cash without becoming bulky. As is true of most of their products, Bellroy designed the coin fold with maximum functionality in mind. They’ve cleverly included a leather ridge to prevent any coins from falling out. The coin fold also has easy storage for your two most used cards and a hidden pocket for up to six others.

The Card Pocket

Have a few more cards to carry? Still like the idea of a small card case? The Card Pocket is a combination of the two. Bellroy lists room for 4–15+ cards, folded cash and coins in this zipped case. Its high coin pouch helps keep change separate, but a full load will be thicker than a slim sleeve. The style is less traditional, but definitely a statement-maker.

The Hide and Seek

Do you prefer the traditional wallet style? If so, the Hide Seek is for you. Getting its name from the tons of hidden pockets…the Hide and Seek lacks not in the storage area. If you carry fairly heavy - cash, 4-8 cards, Driver’s License, insurance card, receipts, etc — you’ll love this wallet. The Hide & Seek is a good everyday wallet for the guy who doesn’t want to compromise storage and maintain the slim… and cool factor.

The Travel Wallet Line by Bellroy

All right, moving on now. Bellroy has a very cool range of travel gear also.

The Travel Wallet

Must-haves for the seasoned traveler. Where is that passport when you need it? Need a pen? How about a place to store those documents as you travel? We’ve covered passport wallets before, but this Bellroy Travel Wallet is perfect for organization on the road.

The Travel Folio

The Travel Folio keeps travel documents together in a zipped leather case. The current design has two passport pockets, six card slots with bulk storage for one or two more cards, hidden flat bill storage and a rear slip pocket. A micro pen is included, along with SIM and ejector-pin storage and RFID protection.

Choose it for passports and travel paperwork. For a tablet or larger notebook, the Tokyo Folio below is the better match.

Tokyo Folio 12.9

The Tokyo Folio is Bellroy’s larger, fabric-covered option for keeping a tablet and paper notebook together. The 12.9-inch version has a padded tablet sleeve, room for an A4 notebook, a pen or stylus loop, slip pockets, and a divided zip pocket. A full zip closes the organizer, while the water-resistant outer fabric and leather accents give it a different feel from the older leather Work Folio A5.

That size is the tradeoff: it works well as a small work kit, but it is much larger than an A5 notebook cover. Choose it for a tablet-and-notebook setup rather than a pocket-sized travel organizer. Bellroy lists the current Tokyo Folio specifications on its own site.

The Women’s Wallet Line by Bellroy

The Folio Wallet

Bellroy’s Folio Wallet sports a classic shape but keeps modern necessities in order. The current compact design holds up to eight cards, folded bills and coins, with a magnetic main pocket for bulkier items and a rear slip pocket. Bellroy says an iPhone 15 or passport fits “at a pinch,” so check the fit before planning to replace your handbag with it.

The Folio Mini

Sold direct byBellroy

A smaller version of the Folio, Bellroy’s Folio Mini might be smaller, but it isn’t short on clever design features. Opening fan-style, the Folio Mini also features a central divider, but the magnetic coin section keeps change separate. Up to 12 cards and bi-folded bills fit neatly on either side and everything is secured with a sturdy zipper.

Zip Wallet

The Zip Wallet combines a slim zipped shape with a flat bill section and magnetic coin pouch. Bellroy lists 3–8+ cards and RFID protection. Choose this over the Folio Mini if keeping notes flat matters more than its split storage layout.

Bonus Section - Bags by Bellroy

Bellroy’s carry-well philosophy extends past wallets into bags, and the Classic Messenger is one option for work. It’s an adaptable 13L messenger with a 14-inch padded laptop sleeve, smart internal pockets, and magnetic buckles that snap shut faster than a traditional strap closure. The adjustable strap has removable padding, so it works as a grab-and-go bag or commuter; check the loaded weight for your routine.

The “Tokyo” Totepack

Say goodbye to your bulky backpack and hello to Bellroy’s sleek, versatile Tokyo Totepack! This is a different design from the older Duo Totepack. The full-size Tokyo has padded storage for a laptop up to 15 inches, internal organization pockets, vertical front pockets and two internal Pop Pockets for a bottle, umbrella or spare shoes. The Compact version has a smaller laptop sleeve, so check which size you’re ordering.

Stow the backpack straps to carry it by the grab handles. Those internal bottle pockets keep the outside tidy, but you’ll need to open the bag to reach a drink.

Why are Bellroy Wallets so Expensive?

Do you remember your parents telling you that you “get what you pay for”? That wise old adage rings true because, well…most of the time, it is true. What is value? We believe it’s what someone is willing to pay or offer for something that solves a problem for them.

That’s exactly what the founders of Bellroy set out to do when they started the company. What problem? Helping people like you and me to slim down their wallets without having to sacrifice function. It’s as simple as that. But as you’ll see, the process that goes into crafting these beautiful pieces of “carry art” isn’t quite as simple.

We’ll look below at the three areas of craftsmanship Bellroy leans on most: design, leather, and environmental impact.

The Design

Fifteen or so years ago a group of friends (who also happen to be designers) sat around together discussing and designing how to make the perfect wallet. They looked at things like eliminating unnecessary layers in the wallet, as well as better functionality and positioning for your cards.

This made them easier to carry and actually use when you need them (but not in the way when you don’t). Bellroy began around a kitchen table in 2010. They’ve come a long way since their humble beginnings. They now employ an entire team of designers still working on the same problem: fewer layers, better access, no wasted bulk.

The Leather

Leather is a big part of Bellroy’s appeal, but the selected material matters. The current cow leather is full-grain and chrome-tanned; don’t assume every Bellroy wallet is vegetable tanned. The thin layers help keep the wallet compact, while the finish affects how much marking and patina you see.

Full-grain describes retention of the grain surface. It does not mean the leather is unfinished, and neither that label nor a smooth finish guarantees the quality of the whole wallet. Look at seams, edge finishing and card access too.

Environmental Impact

Bellroy describes its responsible-business work, including B Corp participation, leather from LWG gold-rated tanneries and recycled fabrics. Those are specific sourcing commitments, rather than a promise that manufacturing has no environmental impact.

Its work includes reducing waste and energy use, improving traceability, and selecting suitable materials. Keeping a wallet you like in use also matters: paying more and replacing it quickly defeats much of the point.

Continued Expansion & Innovation

Bellroy seem to be constantly coming up with new ideas for ways to carry. And while they are always releasing new wallets (or improvement on old ones), they don’t stop there. Bellroy now offers bags, backpacks, multi-purpose pouches, portfolios (folios) and tech carry for tablets, phones, etc…

Their end goal is to make the way you carry better: slimmer profiles, smarter functionality, and materials that last, from a company that started small in Australia and hasn’t stopped growing.
