The Trove Wallet is a Kickstarter darling, and many people are in love with their cool designs. But there are other Trove Wallet Alternatives out there – read on for our round-up of great options!
The Best Trove Wallet Alternatives
All right people, you’re looking for alternatives to those cool, reversible Trove wallets. Here are our favorites, more on each one after the table:
OK, let’s go into those in more detail, shall we?
Crabby Gear Wallet
The non-traditionalist still deserves to keep things minimal and the Crabby Gear wallet has provided just that!
It’s constructed from 100% elastic material to allow for maximum flexibility. The elastic band keeps up to 10 cards, cash, and even your phone securely in place. There are no unnecessary flaps or pockets to maximize traveling light and each Crabby Wallet includes a lobster claw key chain so you can take your wallet virtually anywhere.
- Pros: Extremely lightweight, keeps cards secure
- Cons: Elastic will stretch over time if you “over-stuff” it
The NOMATIC Men’s wallet allows stress-free access to all your cards while still managing to maintain a slim profile.
The medical-grade elastic allows for storage of up to 15 cards and the genuine leather pull tab grants you immediate access to your 4 most used cards. How much easier can it get? The built in pocket provides extra storage for cash, coins or keys.
The NOMATIC wallet can appeal to your classy or causal side with its convenient features and a variety of colors to choose from.
- Pros: Just .6 oz by itself – about a 1/3 the weight of most slim wallets
- Cons: Pull tab shows signs of fraying after a year of use
Traveling as light as possible has never been easier than with the Infinity wallet.
Made from 100% elastic this wallet will ensure all your cash and cards are securely held in place. Two (2) pockets are available to store up to ten (10) cards and still slim enough to fit unnoticeably in your front or back pocket. Super light, thin and durable makes the Infinity wallet the perfect choice for the minimalist in your life.
- Pros: Excellent price point, true minimalist style
- Cons: Won’t last forever, but the price point makes it a no brainer
Recycled Firefighter Wallet
The Recycled Firefighter wallet is bound to catch anyone’s eye the next time you whip it out.
The wallets unique material is made from recycled polyester fire hose along with the T-90 Nylon binding for added strength during everyday use. Holds 8 cards, 10 bills and every single wallet is made in the USA.
The slim design is perfect for carrying in your front pocket and gain quick access to cash with the money strap on the back. This would make a truly unique gift next Father’s day or Christmas.
- Pros: Cool concept, super lightweight
- Cons: A bit stiff at first and takes a week or two to soften up with use
The Thread Wallet is made with durable, tight-knit elastic and a built-in keyring that allows you to attach your wallet to your keys, backpacks, lanyards, etc. It holds cards snugly (as long as there are at least two cards).
Measuring 2.2 x 2.75 inches, it has a unique shape and its flexibility allows the wallet to sit flat in your front or back pockets. The wallet comes with many colors that range from neutrals to eye-poppingly bright solids, to bold patterns.
Ah, but …
There is one big issue that keeps coming up and annoying a subset of people.
Read through the reviews and the one big negative that comes up is that the wallet is stitched together with an interior seam that drives some people nuts!
- “…looked great until I went to put cards in it and saw that God awful seam”
- “it still has a huge lump where the inseam is “
On the other hand, some people love this wallet and it clearly doesn’t bother them, so perhaps it’s a personal thing.
- Pros: Holds cards snugly, keychain attachment is a useful extra
- Cons: That seam divides customers into two camps – “don’t care” and “hate it!”
All the above may be great options, but there can only be one winner:
Our Favorite Trove Wallet Alternative
Drum roll please!
Our favorite of the wallets above is the Nomatic:
- It's exceptionally lightweight, just .6 oz by itself
- The medical-grade elastic is seriously tough
- The wallet itself holds cards and cash snugly
Background On Trove
Trove started making their reversible wallets/card holders back in 2014 with the first of several Kickstarter campaigns. They are now constructed in a variety of different formats, some with coin holders, some designed for carrying earbud headphones, you name it.
They come in wide variety of colors, and can even be customized (as in “build your own”). They are certainly worth a look.
However, they can be hard to get hold of in North America – there is no “Trove Wallet US” at this point (hopefully in the future though!)
Based in the UK, their official distributers list also doesn’t have any US or Canadian companies at the time of writing and hence their shipping costs to North America are extra.
So it’s not surprising some people are on the lookout for a Trove Wallet Alternative that can more easily be purchased in North America. If this changes, we’ll be sure to post an update!
