One thing that Andar doesn’t lack is variety.
They bring to the table one of the more diverse wallet lines that we’ve seen. All of their wallets are super high quality, but our favorite wallet by Andar is definitely The Ranger. Read on for more!
Andar Wallets
We’ll go into more detail below, but the short version is this – The Ranger basically combines all of the cool features from their entire wallet line. We personally are bigger fans of the leather cross strap vs the interior money clip, which is why we picked The Ranger.
That said, if you like this wallet, but would prefer more of a money clip style, then The Apollo would be a better choice. It’s extremely similar (they look identical in the pictures below!), but comes with more of a traditional interior money clip.
ANDAR — A Spanish Word That Loosely Translates “To Carry”
Andar sprung up in 2015 when the minimalist wallet movement was in full swing. Everyone was looking for ways to make carrying your cash and cards more minimalist and well, more fun. That’s where Andar Wallets came in.
Their first wallet was The Baron, which was a mix of a card wallet, bifold and money clip. It was an instant hit so Andar decided to continue rolling out new designs each year. At the time of writing there were up to 14 unique designs, not including their phone and tablet cases. They have also come out with other lifestyle goods such as The Caddy and The Capsule, both quality carry items to add to your repertoire.
Size/Dimensions & Weight
Andar’s approach to designing their wallets is definitely minimalist. It’s really evident when we looked at the size metrics across all their designs. While some are a bit larger than others, you definitely won’t find a trifold Costanza wallet in the mix. Make a note below of the overall wallet dimensions, as well as the weight (in ounces) for each of their wallets.

Color Selection
When it comes to color selection, Andar Wallets are a bit more conservative than say, Bellroy. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. We absolutely LOVE a variety of colors to choose from, but sometimes it’s best to stick to what you do well. In this case, Andar is great at crafting really cool, super-functional wallets.
Their designs are innovative and unique in of themselves, so it’s not necessary to have 15 colors to choose from for each wallet. (Don’t take that as an insult Bellroy, it’s refreshing to us at The Wallet Shoppe when manufacturers actually stay in their own lane.)
All that said, the wallets from Andar aren’t dull and lifeless. They do come in a variety of browns, blacks and grays. Some have a green (olive) hue to them, while others are more of a rustic brown. We’ve sorted each of their wallet below and included the colors that each come in. Currently, there are several colors that are out of stock, but Andar has a nice notification feature that will alert you via email when that specific color is back in stock. Now on to the colors:
Durability
As we jump into the durability, it’s important to point out that Andar used full grain leather on all of their wallets. The short of it is this, full grain leather is the highest graded, premium leather on the market. From an integrity standpoint, it’s extremely durable and tends to age very well.
There are other leather grades on the market such as genuine or bonded leather – Andar definitely doesn’t play in that arena. Those are cheap varieties that will not wear well and will definitely break down as they age. Read our breakdown for a more in-depth look at the different types of leather.
As with any item, the few pieces of leather used will often result in less stitching, glue and other fabrics. Those are the weak points – the leather itself will last a lifetime, but the stitching, glue and other materials tend to wear less graciously. Keep that in mind as you look through Andar’s wallet line.
For example, The Ambassador has less stitching and “complexity” than The Monarch or The Turner (the latter two both have the pull tab integrated into each wallet). We’re not saying that one is necessarily better than the other, but it’s something to think about if durability is top on your priority list.
Wallet Functionality
The way a wallet functions is somewhat subjective. One man’s perfect wallet is another’s disaster. That said – from our experience working with wallets, you can “get used to” any wallet you consistently carry. They will all have their quirks, but each person will them differently anyway.
One tangible way to examine wallet functionality is by how many cards they’ll fit, or how much cash they can carry. We’ll look at those items below across Andar’s wallet range (full range at the time of writing.)
The Ambassador
This wallet is the traditional wallet lover’s go-to. It’s set up the most like a regular wallet than any of Andar’s line. With that, it’s not one of the slimmer wallets on the list (still slimmer than most other brands).

The Ranger
As we said above, this is our favorite Andar Wallet. It has an external quick access card (slide up with a thumb), but also has a pull tab to extract a card from the interior pocket. Add the leather cash strap and we are sold!

The Apollo
One of our two favorite wallets in the line (The Ranger is the other). This wallet combines all of the cool features of other wallets — pull-tab, V-design, ID Window, Quick Access, Internal Money Clip.

The Atlas
This secondary wallet is great to have for trips. It’s got room for your essential cards (when traveling) and enough space for plane tickets, passport, receipts, and more:

The Baron

Also a traditional design (like The Ambassador above), but it’s squarer in shape. The Diplomat brings a handy ID window if that’s something you’ll use on a regular basis.

The Duke
One of the slimmest wallets by Andar. The Duke is a simple card-case which utilizes a leather strap on the back of the wallet to store cash.

The Finn
It’s a nice little wallet, but the elastic is a bit tight and takes some real getting used to. Some users swear by it and love it – so don’t be afraid to try it out. We actually recommend it as a “secondary” wallet — one to take to the gym, to an amusement park, on a long hike, etc..

The Freeman
Another more traditional card case from Andar, The Freeman features an ID Window which makes it a bit different from The Scout (below).

The Griffin
This wallet is known as the little brother to The Apollo. The Griffin has a similar design, but has rearranged the location of the card slots to make it a different functioning wallet.

The Verdict
TL;DR, our personal favorite from all the wallets above is The Ranger.
Andar is great little company that’s dedicated to coming up with innovative designs while using quality materials. We’ve looked at a ton of wallet makers and Andar is near the top both in terms of quality and value. Their leathers wear extremely well and develop a rich patina over time. As carry trends continue to mature, we feel confident that Andar will be towards the front line with a great new batch of wallets.
